Seen in one slide of a recumbent woman with breast cancer is a swatch of hospital linen stamped with the code PGH743. This clue, I hope, will eventually lead me to the name and location of the hospital and to the name of the physician who made these slides. The letters G and H probably stand for General Hospital and the letter P would be the name of the city which, judging by the demographics of the subjects in the slides, is probably located somewhere in the south or California. Each one of the slides is inscribed with the full name of the patient and the date of the photographic session and an occasional diagnostic notation. This one is inscribed Winifred G., 12/24/43.
