Subject : Scrotum — Elephantiasis.
Notes :
The photograph reproduces a lithographic drawing from the collection of the great French dermatologist, Jean-Louis-Marc Alibert (1768–1837). Subject of the drawing is an Egyptian, possibly the marabout whose 110 pound scrotal tumor was successfully extirpated by Dr. Antoine Barthelemy Clot (1793–1868), founder, in 1827, of the first medical school in Egypt at the Abu Zaabal settlement. Alibert discusses the operation on page 302 of his Monographie des dermatoses (v. »»).
