This is the personal narrative of a mail carrier whose legs were amputated after he suffered severe frost bite during the blizzard of 1880. It was not uncommon in the nineteenth century for an invalid to publish a brief narrative, usually on the back of a cabinet card, which could then be distributed to elicit funds for a prosthesis or medical care.
A reader of the Cabinet, who owns a copy of this pamphlet, was kind enough to send a jpeg of another of the photographs, link: »»
