Specializing in otolaryngology, Randall co-authored with George Edmund De Schweinitz a definitive textbook on the subject which was published in 1899. He served as president to the American Laryngological Association and held numerous medical and teaching posts in Philadelphia, most importantly at the University of Pennsylvania. He was made fellow at the College of Physicians of Philadelphia in 1889 and he bequeathed his papers and unpublished manuscripts to this venerable institution.
